The Seaweed Studio
Inspired by the natural beauty of seaweed, I collect washed up seaweed from the Devon coastline and hand press them into art.
Whilst picking through washed up seaweed at a local beach clean in the South Hams, I was struck with the beauty and diversity of seaweed. It can often be unnoticed and unappreciated for its vital role in sustaining marine ecosystems and carbon capture. It is so much more than a slimy encounter in the sea!
I decided to try pressing some specimens and was astonished by how striking they were on paper. From these original pressings I have created high quality prints using recycled card and compostable packaging, all made in the UK.
I donate a small proportion of profits to 'Till the Coast is Clear', a community interest company based in Devon, committed to reducing plastic waste along our South Devon coastline. I also donate to 'Salt Water Britain' and 'Blue Ventures', both non profit organisations dedicated to marine conservation, both in the UK and abroad.
My focus is on producing high quality prints with the least impact on the environment as possible, and supporting marine conservation.
