The committee is made up of local businessmen and women who volunteer their time and expertise each month by attending committee meetings, business clubs and socials. Rebecca Weare


Director, Start Point Law

Rebecca has been Chairman of the KSCC since June 2019. In addition to her work at Start Point Law you can find Rebecca raising awareness of dementia via the Kingsbridge Dementia Friendly Community and working with the Kingsbridge Out of School Club – she’s the Chairman of both organisations. If that weren’t enough to content with she’s also a keen gig rower, one way or another her days are always full!

Alex Thompson

Bartons, Kingsbridge

Alex is currently the Financial Officer for local law firm Bartons Solicitors. He has worked across varied sectors including Property, Manufacturing, Legal and Financial services; specialising in Management Accounts, Payroll and Bookkeeping. Alex’s interest in IT has led him to be involved in ‘fun’ projects from forensic accounting to data migrations and subsequently is an expert on Excel, Sage, Xero and Quickbooks.

Peter Richardson


Utility Warehouse

Peter has had a career in industrial and later consumer goods marketing and in 1997 he became an authorized distributor of Telecomplus a start up company at that time. The company has enjoyed fantastic success being a FTSE 250 company today operating the Utility Warehouse Discount Club brand.

On moving to Kingsbridge Peter saw membership of the Chamber as an obvious means of meeting prospective new business customers. When the treasurer resigned in 2007 he was invited to take the post and he has kept the finances in excellent order ever since!

Steve is involved with a huge variety of events in the area from the Kingsbridge Food and Music Festival to the Annual Crabfest event in Salcombe.
More recently Steve has been known for bringing the little train on the quay back to life – something many of us remembered from our childhoods in the area.
Steve has been on the committee of the KSCC for some years, come and say hello to him at a business club and he’ll gladly help you expand your existing network of contacts,

Cllr Mark Long

South Hams District Council

Mark was elected to SHDC as an Independent in 2019.
Mark was already well known locally through his work as Salcombe Town Councillor, the Salcombe Information Centre, local harbour board and Cliff House Trust. He now also provides the KSCC with relevant updates from SHDC.
We’re all pleased that he’s a part of the team.

Cllr Anne Balkwill

Kingsbridge Town Council

Cllr Balkwill has been with the KSCC committee representing Kingsbridge Town Council since 2018 in addition to her position as practice manager at Selworthy Veterinary Group. Anne also enjoys being involved in community projects, from Kingsbridge in Bloom to the Cookworthy Museum. In her spare time she enjoys boating (in the summer), riding her horse and walking her two dogs. Her wealth of local knowledge is of great benefit to the committee.

Sarah Burnett

Kingsbridge Community College

I have lived in the South Hams for over 45 years, working mainly in the tourism/hospitality business. I set up and established the Salcombe TIC in 1984, prior to that having worked at the Marine Hotel, Thurlestone Hotel in P.R and in conference management in the Cotswolds. I retrained to become a lecturer at Plymouth College in tourism, and for the last 20 years have worked at Kingsbridge Community College in teaching Tourism A Level, and work based learning. I have always worked closely with young people and employers and projects that have given students the best experience within industry that us possible. My many interests/contact locally keep me in touch and
I am privileged to represent the needs of young people in the area. I look forward to continuing my networking and links with local businesses to create sustainable and realistic partnerships in the current challenging business climate.
